Our vineyards are managed to maximize both yield and the health of the soil.

Fourteen acres are planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pino Grigio, Gamay Noir, Bacchus and Foch.

At Basking Turtle, our second veineyard on Mount Prevost, we grow ten acres of Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Merlot.

The soil on the Glenora bench is the result of a series of ice ages. Some 15,000 years ago, the farm probably looked much like the beach at Qualicum today. The growing soil we use is a fairly uniform layer of clay, silt and sand about ten to thirty feet deep. This lies above at least 200 feet of gravel. Over time, grape roots will branch out below to a depth of up to fifty feet to find the water and nutrients they need. At the moment, we irrigate the vineyard less and less each year and we will soon be able to use all the runoff we impound each year for outher purposes.

If we were forced to pick a single premise, it would be that we like to be friends with nature in all her diversity. A rain shadow rain forest is a place of great natural diversity and as caretakers we want to protect and expand that diversity. We embrace many organic and bio-dynamic principles and never use herbicides or pesticides.
